I discovered a website called, 5 Ways Your Business Can Embrace Microblogging, which explains how to effectively use micro blogging in the business sector. Besides twitter, other micro blogging technology includes Jaiku, Tumbir, and Pownce. Take a look and let me know what you think. I will post more on twitter later in the week.

Hi All, after reading posts here, I have some questions.
1. What are the differences between traditional blog and Micro blogging? Only short, simple and ongoing?
2. If companies plan to advertise their products and services, why do they choose micro blogging rather than traditional blog?
Waiting for your views.

Ashley, this is a very interesting article. Do you think the same would apply to instructional settings? Jing
Hi Ashley,
The web sites were very helpful in helping me to understand the idea of a microblog, and I'd like write more but I am out of characters.... wait this is a real blog! So, this is interesting. By limiting users to a short comment, microblogging would appear to create more interaction because one writer cannot dominate with too much information. Other users can then respond to short, to the point, ideas. I'm not sure I would be able to use one effectively due to my wordiness!

First, I think we should all scrap the "word verification" part of our comments options...
Secondly, cool article! It definately feeds into the "instant gratification" which has grasped our society. It seems like the only way people want to participate in something is if they can see the affect of it immediately,...hence the popularity of these microblogs.
I like this topic, and if you could find some more industries which this is being affected by, I'd love to read it.
Good work!

Jing,
I can think of a couple examples of how this could work in an instructional setting. As you know my background is elementary education. One issue that comes to mind is the lack of technology support at the elementary school in which I worked. It would be days until we received a response from the technology coordinator. I think he could incorporate twitter into his technology support plan. If a faculty member or student was having an issue with a piece of technology, they could send a quick message and perhaps he could respond in a more timely manner.
Yan,
Good questions. From my understanding the difference between micro blogging and blogging are length and time. Micro blogging is usually short, quick, and to the point. It is also used for more faster updates than a blog. Does anyone else have anything else to add to help with clarification?
